With the creation of an information and advice service for everyday issues, Europ Assistance anticipated the forthcoming evolution in assistance and a new assistance concept no longer exclusively linked to travel was born.

Europ Assistance is established in Washington. 130,000 assistance missions were carried out by the Group and more than 10 million contracts were sold during the course of the year. The biggest health service repatriation ever organised was carried out by Europ Assistance following a fire on an oil rig off the coast of Pointe-Noire (Congo).

Europ Assistance is established in South Africa.

An agreement with Intourist enables Europ Assistance to operate in the Soviet Union.

Europ Assistance is established in Tunisia.
An office and alarm centre are opened in Beijing.
