Claude Tendil,
Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Europ Assistance Group
Claude Tendil has been Chairman of the Board of Europ Assistance Holding since May
1, 2003. He has also been the Chairman of the Generali
Group in France since April 15, 2002.
Claude Tendil has spent his entire career in the insurance industry. He held top posts
at AXA for 21 years.
He began his professional career at UAP in 1972; he joined the Drouot Group in 1980
as Deputy General Manager and in 1987 was promoted to General Manager, then named
chairman and managing director of Présence Assurances, a company of the AXA
Group.
He was appointed Administrator and General Manager of AXA Midi assurances in 1989,
General Manager of AXA from 1991 to 2000, before being made Vice-Chairman of the board
of directors of the AXA Group until November 2001. During this same period, he was
named chairman and managing director of the Group's French assurance and assistance
companies.
At the same time, from 1992 to 1996 he exercised international responsibilities over
all Property and Casualty Insurance and Life Insurance companies. In 1996 he directed
the merger between AXA and UAP. From 1998 to early 2000, he also oversaw Southern
Europe, Latin America and Africa, as well as reinsurance and major risks for the entire
Group. He also took on horizontal responsibilities: central technical management (Property
and Casualty Insurance and Life Insurance) and IT management.
Claude Tendil graduated from the HEC School of Management (Ecole des Hautes Etudes
Commerciales), the Paris Institute of Political Studies and the Paris Centre for Higher
Insurance Studies (Centre des Hautes Etudes de l'Assurance de Paris).
He is a knight of the Legion of Honour and has been awarded the National Order of
Merit.
