After obtaining a Bachelors in Law Degree and working as a secretary in a medical laboratory, Marianella applied for a job at Europ Assistance. Of Cuban origin, she is today an assistance coordinator in the Europ Assistance Medical Service.

Her beginnings
I saw an ad and I wanted to have the experience. Everything went very fast.
I didn't actually know what assistance was! Everyone who asks us for help thinks their case is unique. You have to put yourself in their place; but you also have to stand back in order to handle the distress, the anxiety, and work efficiently depending on the medical urgency.
What she likes in her job
It is a job that covers a whole range of abilities, from human relations to logistics, foreign languages, and the basic medical knowledge you acquire in dealing with the individual cases. Assistance is a profession in which you can gain experience for several years, on condition that you change services in order to see other kinds of cases.
Her new responsibilities
In fact, several months ago, I wanted to leave the medical plateau in order to
become acquainted with the 'round-the-clock centre where all the night calls come
in, regardless of the kind of assistance to be organised.
My request was accepted and today I am working in this unit on an average of twelve
to thirteen nights per month. I took an in-depth training course before beginning
the new job and I feel as if I have real responsibilities.
In this job, I work in a small, friendly team with a lot of solidarity: there is a good atmosphere there.
Also, during the summer I am in charge of supervising seasonal workers and sharing
my experience with them. That too is good training.
When I decide to change, I'll be able to find another job with daytime hours but for
the moment I'm taking advantage of this rewarding, versatile job in which I have a
lot of independence.
